The Role:
As a Junior Lighting Designer, you will support the delivery of high-end, bespoke lighting designs for luxury residential and hospitality properties. Working under the guidance of more experienced designers, you will assist in turning client briefs into creative and technically sound lighting schemes, helping to bring design concepts to life from inception through to project delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing lighting layout drawings using AutoCAD
- Support the development of lighting specifications and basic control schedules
- Help create presentations and lighting design reports, including inspirational imagery, sketches and renders
- Participate in design coordination with internal and external teams (e.g. architects, interior designers, M&E consultants)
- Join client and internal design meetings to take notes and contribute ideas
- Attend site visits and surveys to observe progress and understand project environments
- Assist in lighting mock-ups and sample reviews
- Support commissioning efforts, under supervision, including occasional evening visits
- Stay up to date with lighting design trends, technologies, and materials
- Maintain project documentation and file management
- Liaise internally with project managers, technical, and sales teams as required
Qualifications:
- GCSEs (including English and Maths) with strong results in creative or technical subjects
- A-Levels or equivalent further education
- Degree or diploma in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design or related fields
Experience:
- 1–2 years of experience in lighting, interior design, architecture or related industry
- Exposure to high-end residential or hospitality design is advantageous
- Experience working in a team-based design studio or consultancy is beneficial
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Basic understanding of lighting principles and design intent
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
- Familiarity with lighting control systems and technical terminology is a plus
- Organised, detail-oriented, and proactive attitude
- Strong visual and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team
- Comfortable engaging in luxury client environments, when needed
- Ability to take direction and act on feedback constructively
