RIBA CPD Lighting Lectures

John Cullen have been accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to present Continuing Professional Development lectures (CPD) to architects and trade professionals.

Each RIBA CPD will last approximately an hour and a half, this includes a 30 minutes demonstration, 45 minute talk with 15 minutes for questions. Back up literature and refreshments will be available. All lighting CPDs take place in our interactive showroom so you can see light in action, please be aware there is no onsite parking.

RIBA CPD

Shaping Spaces CPD

The Shaping Spaces CPD covers the following:

  • Perceptions of space – Theories on how we perceive space
  • Ways of lighting a space – Explanation on quantitative/quality design affects a space.
  • The Lighting Designer’s Toolbox – The tools at our disposal to create quality lighting design.
  • Layering of light – Showcasing how different types of lighting and how each layer has a purpose.

Designing with Light CPD

The Designing with Light CPD covers the following:-

  • How to use different light sources including the latest LED and energy efficient products.
  • Latest Building Regulations examined
  • Where to position fittings for optimum effect.
  • Layering of light for added interest and flexibility of mood
  • Circuiting, control and integration for maximum impact.
  • Finessing of lamps, lenses and control to maximise the scheme.

Energy Efficient Lighting Design for Part L1A Building Regulations CPD

The Energy Efficient Lighting Design for Part L1A Building Regulations CPD covers the following:-

  • Review of new Part L1A Building Regulations from 1 October 2010 for both interiors and gardens
  • Examination of energy efficient light sources and their applications
  • Comparison of light output of various lamps Important considerations when creating an energy efficient scheme
  • Examining how to create energy efficient schemes across numerous case studies throughout the house and garden.

How to light Grade Listed Buildings

The How to light Grade Listed Buildings CPD covers the following:-

  • Variables in lighting listed buildings
  • Working with the fabric of the building/understanding limitations and possibilities
  • Thinking outside the box to enhance architectural features
  • Selection of appropriate luminaries and bespoke options
  • Review of traditional concepts with modern fittings to maintain the historical value across a variety of our projects
