Our project was to take a 200 year old school that had been converted to a dwelling in the early 1960’s and give it a more contemporary look. We removed all the internal walls on the ground floor, added a lighting scheme to highlight the beautiful Cotswold stone and revamped the kitchen as an entertainment area.
Lighting was probably the most important feature of the refurbishment and I chose to put my professional services budget to engaging a lighting designer rather than an architect/interior designer.
“At the beginning of our project, building our dream home, we didn’t even consider having anyone to help out with the lighting. Thankfully someone suggested we took a look at John Cullen Lighting. I met Luke Thomas and from the start felt very confident to leave it in his capable hands.
“We specified John Cullen fittings due to the high quality and style of the in-ceiling fittings. The design service that we received was exceptional and our client is delighted with the end result.”
James Major, Director at Circle Automation
“Many thanks for the advice given on setting up the scenes and throughout the installation itself.
Lighting is such an important part of any renovation and from comments made by our visitors, Hazel Park your design has certainly achieved this.
Once again thanks for all your help throughout the build.”
“I have had the privilege of working with Sian Parsons at John Cullen over the last five years and there is never a day that goes past without my true gratification of the pure brilliance and beauty that her lighting design has brought to our home.
Tessa Ashley-Miller, Maison Design
“I have worked on five projects in the last ten years where I’ve brought John Cullen on board to advise on the lighting as their contribution takes the lighting to another level. Their design ideas and products are superb and I’ve particularly enjoyed working closely with Sian Parsons on the last three.”

“I knew when I started my barn conversion that getting the lighting right was not going to be easy. I had lots of ideas from magazines & websites, architects & a look in my head that I wanted to achieve but found it difficult to articulate.
Growing up lighting seemed so simple, there were fittings & either a screw fit or bayonet bulb. Now however, there were LEDs, halogens, fittings, engines, drivers just to start with. It has become a very specialised field which only a seasoned professional can truly navigate.”
“I have been working with John Cullen for over 10 years using both their design service and purchasing their products. They are always a pleasure to deal with and helpful whenever issues arise. Their fighting products are in class of their own and even when a client is on a budget and can only afford a few items, when chosen correctly they make all the difference.”

“We have used John Cullen design for the past 10 years and they have produced magnificent lighting schemes for 3 different styles of houses. Their first scheme was our 1823 end of terrace converted almshouse in a Gothic collegiate setting in the middle of Regents Park, on which we added a glazed box between 2 wings over 3 floors to the rear of the house. Their scheme featured in several magazines. Lighting made the house.”
“From our first meeting, what to us seemed a large and difficult project, for Luke Thomas was effortless. We are extremely pleased with the all the lighting effects, it exceeds our expectations and we felt John Cullen offer real value for money, given the scale, scope and complexity of the design. I would definitely use Luke and John Cullen again.”
Mike O’Brien, Devon
“The showroom is incredibly useful to visit because it is difficult to visualise the effect of lighting! However over and above that you were very courteous, polite, attentive and insightful. We will be sure to recommend you to others.”
Mr and Mrs Panikker, London
“You seem to have gone overboard to help us, and have so understood my style. Lighting is so complicated for us mere mortals!”
Claire Allen, Wiltshire
“In contemplating a refurbishment of our home, we knew that lighting was fundamental… I now realise that there is scarcely a colour scheme, nor finish, nor furniture piece, nor design that is not brought to life by the right lighting… For that single reason, it was John Cullen, after a 12 month refurbishment, that created the home we hoped for.”
