Matt Healey

Name: Matt Healey
What is your job title?
 Product Development Manager
How long have you been in the lighting industry? 9 ½ years
What is your favourite thing about the industry and your job? I joined the industry when LEDs were being launched for illumination so I have enjoyed designing in this new technology. I love the problem solving side of product design. At John Cullen I am passionate about being able to deliver new products from ideation to creation.
What do you see the future of LED lighting looking like in 5 years’ time? Lighting fittings being used as the back bone of IOT infrastructure. I foresee luminaires incorporating data collection elements such as micro-sensors.
If you could invent anything, what would you invent? A scrum hat that doesn’t make me look like a wally. [He’s a rugby player in his spare time]

Justo Romero

Name: Justo Mocholi Romero
What is your job title? Product Designer
How long have you been in the lighting industry? 2 ½ years
What is your favourite thing about the industry and your job? I particularly like to be challenged and this job gives me that. In my opinion, lighting is underrated because we take it for granted and people do not pay attention to how it effects their mood. The difficulty is making a product which is discreet and does the job you expect without you realising that it is there.
What do you see the future of LED lighting looking like in 5 years’ time? I believe the LED lighting will be more connected with other home and commercial products and become integrated to our behaviours thanks to the IoT shift and with the big steps new technology is making every day.
If you could invent anything, what would you invent? A time machine.

Alex Leck

Name: Alexander Leck
What is your job title? Junior Product Designer.
How long have you been in the lighting industry? 1 ½ years.
What is your favourite thing about the industry and your job? The rate at which the industry produces new and exciting technological advances. The best thing about my job is the thorough, consistent involvement throughout the entire product development process.
What do you see the future of LED lighting looking like in 5 years’ time? Brighter! And also more intelligent, integrated and connected.
If you could invent anything, what would you invent? A 4D Printer.

sam amos

Name: Sam Amos
What is your job title? Junior Product Designer
How long have you been in the lighting industry? 7 months [Placement year]
What is your favourite thing about the industry and your job? I like the constant technological evolution and the various environments lights can be used in. My favourite part of my job is developing models on CAD and prototyping my designs.
What do you see the future of LED lighting looking like in 5 years’ time? I think that the size of LEDs and Cob’s (Chip on boards) will reduce and the efficacy, along with the CRI of the light source, will increase.
If you could invent anything, what would you invent? I would invent a universal screwdriver to fit any screw without the need of carrying around a large tool box with a selection of sizes and heads.

Keep an eye on the exciting products launching this year from this innovative team!
